Cookie Policy Generator

Create an editable cookie policy draft from scan data, then review the purposes, providers and details before publishing.

A cookie policy should describe the services your website uses. Copying another site's table gives you a polished document with no reliable connection to your own implementation. ConsentScope Pro starts the draft from captured cookie data so you have a concrete inventory to review.

The generator produces editable policy content, including HTML and Markdown output in the supported workflow. It cannot discover every service from a single page or decide the legal wording for your organization. Unknown cookies and missing details still need an owner.

Use the draft after reviewing the scan. Then add the organization details, withdrawal instructions and service information that the browser alone cannot establish. Publishing a policy does not make an ungated tracker respect consent.

Collect an inventory that represents the site

Choose templates that load different services: the homepage, a product page, a contact form and any relevant embedded content. Record whether each scan was taken before consent or after a particular grant. A pre-consent baseline alone will not contain a service that correctly waits for acceptance.

Keep the scan conditions alongside the draft. If the checkout or logged-in area was not tested, include it in the review backlog rather than implying it was covered. The bulk scanner can help with public-page baselines, while the extension supports hands-on interaction tests.

Review the fields the browser cannot explain

Draft fieldWhat to confirmWho can help
Cookie purposeThe actual use on this websiteApplication or analytics owner
ProviderThe organization responsible for the serviceVendor and procurement records
DurationConfigured lifetime and refresh behaviorImplementation and current vendor documentation
Withdrawal instructionsThe real path to change a saved choiceCMP or frontend owner
Unknown entryWhether it belongs in the inventory and whyDeveloper responsible for the integration

Do not invent a duration because another website lists one for a similarly named cookie. Configuration and product changes can matter. If the available scan lacks enough evidence, retain a review note until the relevant owner supplies the detail.

Example: a correctly blocked service missing from the first draft

Suppose the baseline scan contains only necessary cookies. After analytics acceptance, another scan records a new analytics identifier. A policy generated only from the first inventory would not describe that optional service. This is a hypothetical example of why test coverage matters, not evidence that the generator malfunctioned.

Use both the observed inventory and the organization's known service list to review completeness. A cookie policy can also need to explain related storage or processing that is not represented by a cookie row. Keep the policy owner involved instead of treating the generator as the final decision-maker.

Check that the published page matches the actual controls

If the draft tells visitors to use Cookie settings, verify that the control exists and works on the public site. Test it on the relevant layouts, including mobile. A withdrawal instruction that points to a missing button creates a practical problem even if the wording sounds reasonable.

After publication, use policy analysis as a further comparison against observed services. Investigate both missing matches and outdated services that remain in the text. Keep a dated copy of the reviewed version and record who approved material changes.

Treat new integrations as a reason to revisit the draft

Add a policy review to the release checklist when a team introduces a booking tool, chat widget or measurement service. Confirm the new behavior in the browser before changing the text. Sometimes the right fix is to remove an unintended integration, not add a disclosure for it.

For an agency, keep the client-specific inventory separate even when several sites share a template. One extra plugin can change what needs explaining. The script report can help identify that difference, while the CMP guides address the separate consent implementation.

How it works

1

Scan representative pages and review the captured cookie inventory.

2

Generate a policy draft from the selected scan data.

3

Confirm purposes, providers and retention details, then add the site's contact and preference instructions.

4

Publish the reviewed draft and repeat the inventory check after integration changes.

Key benefits

A concrete starting point

Draft from observed cookies rather than an unrelated generic list.

Editable output

Review and adapt the generated content before publication.

A repeatable review

Compare the draft with new scans after tag or template changes.

Who is it for

Website owners

Draft a cookie inventory for review before publishing a policy.

Marketers

Update disclosures when analytics and advertising integrations change.

Small businesses

Prepare a starting draft, then verify purposes, providers and retention details.

Frequently asked questions

Is the generated policy ready to publish without review?
No. Confirm the inventory, purposes and organization-specific details, and obtain appropriate legal review. A scan cannot establish every disclosure requirement.
Does it change my banner or block cookies?
No. Policy generation creates text. Consent controls must be implemented in the website, CMP or tag manager.
Does it update the published policy automatically?
No. Rerun the scan and review the generated draft when the implementation changes, then publish the approved text yourself.
